Boost Throttle Response & Horsepower

Short Ram Air Intake

The fundamental concept behind a RAM Air Intake (RAI) involves harnessing the “RAM” pressure effect. This means forcefully channeling air into the engine from a direct, ‘head-on’ location within the engine bay during induction.

This causes the moving car to pressurize incoming air, supplying the engine with air at higher speed and volume. Thus ideally translating to greater horsepower and performance.

In short, it rams the air into the engine!

Compared to cold air induction systems, RAM air induction kits offer a slightly quicker throttle response, particularly in the lower RPM range, due to its shorter tubing. A disadvantage is that the intake air is warmer and contains less oxygen, as the ram kit is installed closer to the hot engine block.

Designed in Italy, RAM Intakes by BMC Air Filter feature more intricate engineering and design than the standard induction systems and the car air filter range in general. This can contribute to their slightly higher cost compared to basic induction systems. However, the potential gains in performance and throttle response can make them a favoured choice among enthusiasts seeking high performance across race and street.
